DULUTH - A company that is moving its headquarters to Suwanee broke ground Thursday on a 25,000-square-foot retail center in the Gwinnett Place Community Improvement District.
Vincent Catanzaro, with Vici Real Estate, said he did not know what would go into the retail space on Breckinridge Boulevard near Pleasant Hill Road. The 24,748-square-foot Plaza at Breckinridge will have space for a drive-through and businesses, including restaurants or offices.
"Our confidence is so high because we're confident in what the CID's doing," Catanzaro said. "It really feels good to be part of the Gwinnett family."
Members of the Chamber of Commerce and the CID were present for the ground breaking ceremony. Vince DeSilva, with the Gwinnett Chamber, said the project was simply scratching the surface of where the area would be in the coming years.
Joe Allen, the CID's executive director, said the ground breaking was emblematic of the great future he sees for the Gwinnett Place area.
"Though the clouds may be overcast, it's going to be the shiny city on the hill," he said of the development.
It is located near Bahama Breeze and the Country Inn and Suites at 3550 Breckinridge Blvd.
The Suwanee headquarters is 140,000 square feet and includes medical, office and retail space.
