If you made a New Year's resolution to become more creative in 2008, then Anita's ArtsChool in Buford is just the thing. Founded by Anita Stewart, the school offers classes to help you bring out your inner Rembrandt, no matter what your age or skill level.
Anita's ArtsChool is more than a school for self betterment. As Stewart is a certified art teacher, high school students can earn high school art credit through the school. Teens who want to go on to study art in college and beef up their portfolio can get a head start through the school.
Anita's ArtsCool, tucked behind Buford's Main Street on Moreno St., started 2008 with a full slate of art classes. There are creative opportunities in a variety of artistic outlets, especially for kids.
One class for aspiring cartooners will start tomorrow. "Cartoon Craziness" invites doodlers ages 10 to 18 to explore action figures, body shapes and facial expressions, as well as improv drawing skills using perspective and shading. Taught by Bobbie Adamczyk, the eight-week class will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday.
Younger kids can join in the fun with "Drawing's for Me." This class, taught by Jean Plumer, is designed for kids ages 7 to 10. Held from 6 to 7 p.m. on Mondays, the class offers the basics of drawing to start young artists off with the right technical foundation.
For older crowds, the "Water Color for Adults" class is a nice fit. The first session begins Jan. 15, and will continue from 1 to 3 p.m. every Monday through March 4. Taught by Rosemary Benavides Williams, the class will explore the fundamentals of watercolor and wet wash techniques.
These classes are just a few of the many courses taught at ArtsChool. There are also pottery classes for adults, tweens and children, as well as other two dimensional disciplines.
"Art Stars" is popular for the 7 to 10-year-old crowd. These youngsters study famous artists such as Picasso, Alice Neal, Paul Klee and Freda Kahlo, and explore mediums from drawing and painting to sculpture. This class is held from 4:30 to 6 p.m. on Mondays, and is taught by Jean Plumer.
Plumer has a class in development with an intriguing philosophy. Titled "Finding Your Artistic Self," the class is being offered to artists ages 14 and up, and is designed to "unlock that inner voice." Plumer has a true passion for this subject. The concept is to explore various means of expressing oneself through both art and journaling, and discovering the keys of successful communication. The dates and times are being ironed out, and updates will be posted on the Anita's ArtsChool Web site, www.anitasartscool.com.
