Bomb squad responds to suspicious package

SUWANEE - Gwinnett police were called to a Suwanee home Thursday morning after reports of a suspicious package.

Police spokesman David Schiralli said someone called 911 stating a briefcase was left on a sidewalk near Ridge Drive and Hickory Branch Trial.

According to Schiralli, the department's Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit (EOD) responded to the scene to inspect the suspicious item.

"It had been sitting there for a while with no one around it," Schiralli said. "Our EOD responded and examined it with our robot and determined it was safe to take it and dispose of it."

Schiralli was unsure what was inside the briefcase.
