BUFORD - A 62-year-old Buford man died Tuesday night at the scene of a vehicle accident, but the cause of his death remains unclear, police said.
Larry Jackson Wilkins died at the scene of a three-car accident at the intersection of Buford Highway and Robert Bell Parkway in Buford. Police said Wilkins could have suffered from a medical condition moments prior to the 10:30 p.m. collision. The accident triggered a domino effect among the three vehicles, police said. According to preliminary reports, Wilkins was driving a 1993 Chevrolet S-10 when his vehicle struck a Jeep Wrangler, forcing the Jeep into a Honda Civic in a right turn lane on Buford Highway. The drivers of the Honda and Jeep complained of pain on scene but refused medical treatment, said Gwinnett police spokeswoman Cpl. Illana Spellman. Spellman said drugs or alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash. Wilkins was the only driver involved not wearing a seat belt, she said. "It is unclear at this time if the driver died from injury sustained in the collision, or if he was in medical distress prior to the collision," Spellman said.
