NORCROSS - Police released the name Tuesday of Gwinnett's first homicide victim of the new year, while documents emerged showing a Cobb County man could be behind the killing.
Rafael Anguiano, 29, of Lawrenceville, was gunned down outside a Jimmy Carter Boulevard night club early Sunday morning, police said. Anguiano was shot once in the face and twice in the back, according to a warrant released Tuesday. He later died at a local hospital. The warrant alleges Heriberto "Erick" Bonilla-Rojas, 22, of Mableton murdered the victim just after 3 a.m. Sunday. Bonilla-Rojas is described as a Hispanic man, 5 feet 8 inches tall and 170 pounds. He drives a red Ford Ranger. Investigators had made no arrests in the case Tuesday evening, said Gwinnett police spokeswoman Cpl. Illana Spellman. Anguiano was murdered outside the Los Recuerdos night club near Norcross. Police said he was entering a vehicle with a 23-year-old female in the rear parking lot of club when a man began firing shots. The shooter's motive is unclear, police said. The woman was unharmed in the shooting, police said. The slaying marked Gwinnett's first homicide of 2008. The county set a record in 2007 with 50 reported homicides. That surpassed a record of 40 set the previous year. Police ask anyone with information about murder to call Gwinnett police at 770-513-5300.More like this story
