Hunter to play in Under Armour game today
Buford star coveted after backing off Irish decision

The recruiting game is back open for Buford star lineman Omar Hunter after the recent withdrawal of his commitment to Notre Dame, but today isn't about impressing scouts.

Hunter has plenty of offers, so he's not concerned about college coaches. He just wants to have fun in the inaugural Under Armour All-American High School Football Game in Orlando.

He had an offer to play in the more established U.S. Army All-American Game, but chose to try to the newly formed Under Armour game instead.

"I've enjoyed getting to know all these different players and coaches," Hunter said. "It's also fun seeing Disney World again. I've been there once so this is the second time.

"I love the game. It's great. It's going to be a great game. Under Armour has fit us together really well. ESPN has been great. The skill challenge was great."

Hunter competed in the skill challenge on Thursday, facing off against the country's other top offensive and defensive linemen on an obstacle course. He had the course's fastest time among linemen in the preliminary round, but slipped in the finals and didn't take first.

But that didn't really put a damper on the week, which culminates with the nationally televised game today at 2 p.m. on ABC.

"I expect a high-intensity game," Hunter said. "It should be a lot of fun and a lot of scoring."

Hunter has been one of the more popular interviews this week because of his decision to de-commit from Notre Dame, the school he chose over Michigan back during the summer.

Notre Dame is now completely out of the running for the 6-foot-1, 300-pounder, who wants to stay in the South if possible.

"It just didn't feel right anymore," Hunter said of Notre Dame. "Being a little closer to home was part of it. Part of it was the 3-4 scheme versus the 4-3 scheme. It just didn't fit right for me anymore."

Hunter has a new list of favorite schools, naming Florida, Auburn and Southern California. He has set up a Jan. 18 visit to Florida and said he also hopes to visit both Auburn and USC before National Signing Day on Feb. 6.
