SUWANEE - A SWAT stand-off has ended after about 14 hours, after police discovered the body of a man suspected of shooting two veteran Gwinnett County police officers Thursday evening.
The officers, who were shot while serving a felony warrant at 5534 White Cedar Terrace in Sugar Hill, were reportedly in stable condition, although one under went surgery Thursday night.
Gwinnett County Police spokeswoman Cpl. Illana Spellman said police entered the Sugar Hill home and found a body at about 10:30 a.m. Friday, about 14 hours after the incident began.
Although the man, who is in his late 30s, has been identified in news reports, Spellman asked the media to withhold his name until his family members can be notifed of his death. The Gwinnett Daily Post is respecting her request.
Suwanee Dam Road was closed overnight while the Gwinnett County Police SWAT team tried to control the incident. Spellman confirmed that tear gas was used, and that the team had contact with the suspect throughout the night.
