Beowulf (Unrated Director's Cut)
Movie: 3 1/2 stars out of 4
Disc: 3 1/2 stars out of 4
Like last week's "American Gangster," the DVD release of "Beowulf" includes extra footage that actually detracts from the superior theatrical version. Watching it at home in standard 2-D also doesn't hold a candle to the mind-blowing 3-D. That said, it's still a highly potent film, and director Robert Zemekis' "motion-capture" form of animation shows light years of improvement over his creepy and stilted "Polar Express." The four bonus featurettes cover every last detail of the production and tip this title into definite "must-own" territory.
