Cops charge 2 with prostitution

LAWRENCEVILLE - Undercover police followed a Web site advertisement to a Duluth hotel room where they arrested two women for running a small brothel.

Police said the women operated from a room at a Quality Inn on Venture Parkway. They both allegedly offered to have sex with a member of Gwinnett police's vice unit for $300 each.

Both women were arrested Friday evening.

Brooke Elise Shields, 21, of Lawrenceville, is charged with prostitution, pimping and keeping a place of prostitution, all misdemeanors. She posted $3,600 bail and was released from the Gwinnett County Jail on Saturday.

Loganville resident Karri Renee Casteel, 20, is charged with prostitution, keeping a place of prostitution and marijuana possession. She also posted $3,600 bail and was released.

Gwinnett police spokesman Officer David Schiralli said investigators answered Shields' ad on "a popular Web site" and agreed to meet the woman at a specific hotel room.

Neither woman could be reached for comment Monday.

Shields' only listed telephone number has been disconnected. A message left at a Loganville home matching Casteel's address was not returned.

According to jail records, Shields is enrolled as a student at Georgia Gwinnett College. She was also arrested in January on shoplifting charges.

Jennifer Stephens, Georgia Gwinnett College spokeswoman, said Shields is not currently listed as a student in school databases.
