Rev. Gaylon Beard, age 84, of Buford, died Monday, February 25, 2008. Funeral services will be 2 P.M. Thursday, February 28, 2008 in the Chapel of Tapp/Tim Stewart Funeral Home with Rev. Gene Brown and Rev. Alan Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Broadlawn Memorial Gardens. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ernestine Beard, Buford; Children, Gayle and David Gower, Tony Beard, Robin and Katie Beard, and Tim Beard, all of Buford; Sister, Patricia Adams of Buford; Brother-in-Law, Bonnie Martin of Buford; Grandchildren, Chris and Cindy Beard, Chad and Debbie Beard, Matt and Holly Gower, Adam and Megan Gower, Katie and Ryan Potts; Great Grandchildren, Christian, Hayden and Kaleb Gower, Ryan Beard, Ashton and Alexis Christopher; several nieces and nephews also survive. A native of Buford, Rev. Beard was a member of Piedmont United Methodist Church, of Cumming, a United States Navy Veteran serving in WWII, a past Commander of the American Legion Post 127, retired from General Motors, and minister with the United Methodist Conference for 50 years. Rev. Beard ministered Duncan's Creek Church, Trinity Methodist Church, Piney Grove Methodist Church, Piedmont Methodist Church, Ebenezer Methodist, and Upper Shiloh Methodist Church.
