LAWRENCEVILLE - Court officials expect two separate Gwinnett murder trials - the county's first of 2008 - to start Monday.
Both murders - one in September 2005, the latter in February last year - happened in Dacula. Nigel Lush, Assistant District Attorney, said both jury trials will be held in Superior Court Judge Michael Clark's division, but specific courtrooms had yet to be designated as of Friday. He expects jury selection will commence Monday morning. · In the oldest case, Glen Earl Cahill, 59, of Dacula, is accused of fatally shooting his 62-year-old former girlfriend in September 2005. Police said Cahill shot Sharon Elaine Main, of Auburn, at a 2800 Meridian Drive residence in Dacula. A second woman was also shot, but she recovered, police said at the time. Cahill fled Gwinnett and was arrested Sept. 12 in Grayson County, Ky. - about 70 miles southwest of Lexington. · Marco Danyel Mcilwain, 19, of Dacula, is charged with murder in the shooting death of Jimmy Lee West, 19. The shooting occurred Feb. 5, 2007, in Dacula. Mcilwain is the first of three co-defendants charged with murder to face trial, said Lush. He was indicted - along with Joseph Andrew Smith and Keith Orlando Owens Jr. - in October. Police said the three men gunned down West in a yard on Hill Circle in Dacula. Investigators said all three men knew West, but a motive was unclear. Mcilwain has remained without bond at the Gwinnett County Jail since Feb. 6 last year. Lush said either Superior Court Judge Michael Clark or Magistrate Judge Laura Tate will preside over the trials.More like this story
