American Gangster (2 Disc Unrated Extended Edition) (R)
Movie: 4 stars out of 4 Disc: 3 1/2 stars out of 4 The R-rated theatrical version of "American Gangster" (also included in this set) was the second-best movie of 2007. The unrated extended version lends credence to the axiom "less is more." While containing some mildly interesting extra footage, the 19-minute-longer unrated version of the film has less of a visceral impact. Director Ridley Scott's riff on Martin Scorsese is a sprawling, fact-based slice of mob Americana and easily one of his best works. The feature-length extras make this a must-own for even casual fans of the organized-crime genre, Scott or co-leads Russell Crowe and Denzel Washington. Technical specifications: aspect ratio: Widescreen anamorphic (1.85:1), audio: English (2.0 Dolby Digital), English and French (Dolby Digital 5.1), subtitles: English SDH, Spanish and French. Special features include: Deleted scenes including an alternate opening Feature-length, making-of documentary "Case Files" - three behind-the-scenes featurettes (Universal, $28.96)More like this story
