GRAYSON - The Grayson City Council approved Monday night a trip for the mayor and council to attend the Georgia Municipal Association Convention and training classes in Savannah in June.
"GMA offers many substantive classes that deal with city issues ... from government to financing," said Mayor Jim Hinkle. "It's important for city officials to attend these sessions for educational purposes."
Along with Hinkle, council members Allison Rooks, Tammy Shumate, and Marcus Hinson, and City Administrator Laura Paul-Cone will attend the convention. Total cost of the trip will be about $6,000, $1,200 per person, which will include mileage, hotel accommodations, and classes.
In other business, the council:
n Approved an intergovernmental agreement with the Gwinnett County Commission for law enforcement services for the city.
n Entered into a lease agreement with the Georgia Department of Transportation for property at Rosebud Road and Highway 20. The 49-year agreement will cost the city $100 per year.
n Mayor Pro-Tem Shumate reported that the Gwinnett Municipal Association announced at its legislative meeting that it is looking to hire a director to run the organization.
n Councilwoman Rooks announced that Grayson Day will be held this year on April 26, and the annual Easter Egg Hunt will be on March 22.
