Spc. Adam Osland, son of Tom and Cindy Osland of Suwanee, recently returned from Iraq, where he was awarded a medal of valor. He is a graduate of air assault training and is stationed at Ft. Drum in New York.

Army Pvt. Nadia Whitehead, daughter of Deborah Kelly-Whitehead of Lawrenceville, has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C.

Her nine-week training course included the study of the Army mission, history, tradition, core values, military justice system and military courtesy, as well as physical fitness training, basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare, bayonet training, drill and ceremony, field tactics, first aid and marching.

Tim McElrath of Lawrenceville recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Ill. During the eight-week program, McElrath completed classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety.

Navy Seaman Alexander Korponay, son of Robert and Lori Korponay of Grayson, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Ill. During the eight-week program, McElrath completed classroom study and practical instruction on Naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety with an emphasis on physical fitness.

Army Pvt. Brent P. Williamson recently graduated from basic combat training at Ft. Jackson in Columbia, S.C.

During his nine weeks of training, he studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic comabt skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches and field training exercises.

Williamson is a 2007 graduate of James Madison High School in Norcross.
