DULUTH - An early morning crash in Duluth sent four people to area hospitals and clogged Peachtree Industrial Boulevard for hours.
The multi-vehicle accident happened about 8:15 a.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Rogers Bridge Road and Peachtree Industrial Boulevard. A 1-year-old child involved in the crash was taken to Scottish Rite Hospital in Atlanta but did not suffer major injuries, police said. Police continued to investigate what caused the accident late Wednesday, said Duluth police Maj. Don Woodruff. The chain-reaction crash appeared to have started when a white pickup truck, driven southbound on the boulevard by William McDaniel, 77, of Suwanee, struck an SUV. The pickup then struck a van, pushing it out of the way, and continued on to hit a Toyota car, police said. The truck then struck a Chrysler 300, pushing it into the northbound lane, before the truck went airborne and landed on a guardrail. Lakiesha Banks, 32, a passenger in the Chrysler, was seriously injured. Banks, McDaniel and the driver of the Chrysler 300, Curtis Hoggard, of Suwanee, were transported to Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville for treatment, police said. The 1-year-old child was a passenger in the Chrysler 300. The baby was properly restrained in a child safety seat, said Woodruff. Woodruff said the roadway wasn't fully opened until about 1 p.m. "We had to block traffic for about four hours," he said. "It was a mess." Police are investigating what caused McDaniel to lose control of his pickup truck. Police ask anyone who may have witnessed the crash to call investigators at 770-476-4151.More like this story
