Moore, Smith win Atlanta Sports Awards Two Gwinnett athletes received Atlanta Sports Awards on Monday night from the Atlanta Sports Council. Parkview's Ryan Smith was named High School Scholar-Athlete of the Year and Collins Hill grad Maya Moore was named High School Athlete of the Year. Wesleyan's Tucker signs with Gordon baseball Wesleyan senior Ben Tucker has signed a scholarship to play baseball at Gordon College. A first baseman, Tucker hit .394 with three home runs and 26 RBIs as a junior. Eagles' Connell wins King of the Hill tourney Josiah Connell of Collins Hill was the 130-pound champion at last weekend's JV King of the Hill Tournament. The 29-team event is hosted by Collins Hill wrestling. 'Prep Rally' spotlights Mill Creek's Porter "Gwinnett Prep Rally," a Gwinnett County high school sports TV program, airs basketball highlights from Central Gwinnett-Shiloh boys, South Gwinnett-Berkmar boys, Brookwood-Parkview girls and Norcross-Duluth girls. Featured athletes include Mill Creek's Porsha Porter, Central's DeVonta White, Parkview's Lauren Coleman and Berkmar's Wesley Witherspoon. "Gwinnett Prep Rally" airs each Wednesday and Thursday at 9:30 p.m. on Comcast Channel 25 and each Wednesday and Thursday at 9:30 p.m. on Charter Cable 19. It also airs on GCPS each Thursday at 10:30 p.m. and Friday at 6 p.m. Panthers' Watkins is 'Coaches Corner' guest Parkview boys basketball coach Tim Watkins is this week's guest on "Coaches Corner," a locally produced high school sports TV show. The show also honors Wesleyan girls basketball as its team of the week, Greater Atlanta Christian's Brett Johnson as its player of the week and the Duluth girls basketball team as its team to watch. "Coaches Corner" airs Wednesdays at 7 p.m. and Thursdays at 8:30 p.m. on Comcast Channel 25 and Thursdays at 7 and 8 p.m. on Charter Channel 19. State swimming, diving highlights on GPB Highlights from this past weekend's state swimming and diving championships at Westminster will be shown on this week's edition of Prep Sports Plus, Georgia Public Broadcasting's weekly high school sports TV show. Brookwood's boys won their first-ever team title at the event. Prep Sports Plus airs Thursday at 7:30 p.m., Saturday at 6:30 p.m. and Sunday at 12:30 p.m.More like this story
