Touchmark National Bank opens in Norcross

NORCROSS - Touchmark National Bank recently opened its temporary headquarters at 3740 Davinci Court, Suite 150 in Norcross. It will move in March to a full-service branch in Duluth.

The bank opened with $31.75 million in capital funds from more than 400 individual investors through a public offering.

TNB focuses on serving small businesses and professional groups, as well as retail banking for individuals.

Planet Smoothie holds contest

ATLANTA - Anyone who can invent a substitute for polystyrene, also known as Styrofoam, can win $5,000 and one free Smoothie per week for a year from Planet Smoothie.

While polystyrene remains the best material to keep Smoothies cold and coffee hot, Planet Smoothie officials want to find an alternative, so they are calling on their customers, said Chris Morocco, executive vice president and chief development officer for emerging brands.

"We have and continue to exhaust our resources through re-use of polystyrene, or overall conversion or replacement of this material," Morocco said.

Planet Smoothie serves drinks in recycled polystyrene containers and reusable plastic cups.

Broad Street names retirement director

Johnston joins board of directors

NORCROSS - David Johnston was recently appointed to Norcross-based AerovectRx Corporation's Board of Directors. Johnston is a senior pharmaceutical executive with extensive experience in preclinical and clinical drug development, regulatory affairs and product commercialization.

"David brings a wealth of experience in all aspects of therapeutic development, including specific expertise with inhaled therapeutics," said AerovectRx Chief Executive Officer Ed Cannon.

Johnston earned his bachelor's and doctorate degrees in chemistry from St. Andrews University in Scotland and completed postdoctoral training at the Max Planck Institute in Heidelberg, Germany.

Business alliance to host meeting

BUFORD - This month's meeting of the Buford Business Alliance will be anything but stuffy.
