Chick-fil-A donating sales to teen injured in skiing accident

SUWANEE - A local Chick-fil-A restaurant is donating a portion of its sales today to help the family of a Lanier Middle School student injured in January on a skiing trip in Colorado.

Eighth-grader Brice Croxton hit a tree while snow skiing at the Breckenridge Ski Resort in Colorado, said his mother, Susan Croxton. He suffered a spinal fracture in his mid-back and is paralyzed from the sternum down, she said. Ten of his ribs were also fractured.

Brice is being treated at the Shepard Center in Atlanta, Susan Croxton said.

"He is getting stronger every day," she said. "He is definitely making progress."

Meanwhile the Chick-fil-A on Moore Road in Suwanee will donate 20 percent of its sales from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. today to the Croxton family to help pay Brice's medical bills, according to a news release. The restaurant will also place a collection jar on the front counter for additional donations.

"We live in a community that flourishes from the support we receive from each other," Brad Williams, franchise operator of the Chick-fil-A restaurant, said in the news release. "The Croxtons are a part of this community, and we are going to do everything we can to let them know that they are not in this situation alone. We were there for the family during the good times, and we will stand tall with them during these difficult times."

Before Brice was injured, the restaurant held a Spirit Day for the teen's eighth-grade football team from North Gwinnett Recreational Center. Brice's team went on to win the Chick-fil-A Recreational Bowl Game.

Susan Croxton said her family feels blessed by the community's generosity. She said her son "is kind of amazed by it all."

"We've had lots of cards and gifts send from several students and teachers," she said, adding that some administrators and teachers from the school have visited Brice.

The Chick-fil-A at Moore Road is located at 1035 Peachtree Industrial Boulevard in Suwanee.
