Prep Roundup: Massive second half lifts Comets

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Brian Williams led Central Gwinnett (4-6) with 17 points and Kwabena Frimpong added 12 more to help defeat Brunswick 57-52 at the Brunswick Invitational on Saturday.

Central overcame a 12-point first half to explode for 45 second-half points in the win.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Brookwood 51, McIntosh 46

FAYETTEVILLE - Sean Capps scored 16 points and Chris Bolden added 12 more as the Broncos (7-3) downed the Indians on Saturday at the Whitewater Invitational round robin event at Whitewater High School.

Collins Hill 63, Brewbaker (Ala.) 55

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Reed Buck scored 18 points to help Collins Hill beat Brewbaker Technical Magnet (Ala.) 63-55 on Saturday.

Jeremy Olsen contributed 15 points and Saah Nimley added 12 for the Eagles (8-2).

Parkview 58, Duluth 54

LILBURN - Parkview defeated Duluth 58-54 and improved to 3-6 overall on Saturday.

Rachard Lofton led Parkview with 21 points and Brandon Macon added 15. Armand Tatum scored 24 points for Duluth.

Providence 55, North Oconee 27

BOGART - Westley Hinton led with 15 points as Providence defeated North Oconee 55-27 on Saturday. Nate Bucher and Peter Hage each scored 11 for Providence (5-4).

Apalachee 54, Commerce 42

COMMERCE - Chaun Gresham scored 16 points to help Apalachee take a 54-42 win over Commerce on Saturday.

Dennis Whitley added 14 points and Clayton Barber contributed 11 points for Apalachee (4-4).

Lakeview Academy 81, Hebron 59

DACULA - Lakeview Academy beat Hebron 81-59 on Saturday.

Anthony Stewart led Hebron with 21 points and four blocks, and Shawn Gibbs contributed 19 points and 12 rebounds. Trey Saxton chipped in 10 points for Hebron (2-6).

Wesleyan 67, West Hall 60

DAHLONEGA - Carter Brantley scored 26 points to help Wesleyan (5-4) defeat North Hall 67-60 on Saturday.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Mill Creek 61, Madison Co. 51

GRAYSON - Mill Creek took a 61-51 victory over Madison County on Saturday.

Moneshia Simmons led with 14 points and 10 rebounds, and Tia Williams also scored 14 for the Hawks. Jasmine Sublett chipped in 11 for Mill Creek (10-1).

Shiloh 58, Paulding 17

VILLA RICA - Shiloh topped Paulding 58-17 on Saturday at the Villa Rica Christmas Tournament.

Tajshiana Westbrook led the Generals with 18 points and seven steals, while Alyssa Aitken contributed 13 points and 12 rebounds for` the Generals.

South 60, Whitewater 37

FAYETTEVILLE - Chelsea Cleveland and Damirrea Martin each scored 10 points as the Comets (4-3) downed the Wildcats on the road Saturday.

Whitewater's Mikayla Stewart led all scorers with 18 points.

Apalachee 50, Commerce 30

COMMERCE - Lacresha Mayweather scored 14 points and Kelsey Montgomery added 12 points to help Apalachee (3-5) defeat Commerce 50-30 on Saturday.

Buford 65, East Hall 38

DAHLONEGA - Andraya Carter scored 15 points as the Wolves beat East Hall 65-38 on Saturday.

Blanche Alverson contributed 11 points and Karly Fullem added 10 points for Buford (4-1).

WRESTLING

Three medal for Lions

CHATANOOGA, Tenn. - Peachtree Ridge's Matt Chapman (171-pounds), Alan Gigolaev (160) and Sam Kuntz (189) each medaled in the McCallie Invitational on Saturday.

Grayson places fourth in invitational

LOGANVILLE - The Grayson Rams placed fourth in the Eric Hill Memorial Invitational on Saturday.

Paul Ardila (189) placed first after three over times against Williams of Eastside. Both received best finals match awards. Ardila (25-0) remains undefeated for the season.

Nick Isburgh (119), Jack Dunster (145) and Michael Dixon (285) placed second.

PHOENIX, Ariz. - Wesleyan fell to St. Mary's (Calif.) 82-61 at the Nike Tournament of Champions on Saturday.

Logan Morris scored 18 points and Erin Hall contributed 11 points for Wesleyan. Chantel Kennedy scored 10 and Anne Marie Armstrong added seven points for the Wolves (7-3).
