SNELLVILLE - Nothing quells the pangs of a downtrodden economy like a plentiful dinner and prayer.
Such is the attitude of Love in Action outreach ministries, a volunteer group dedicated to providing for Gwinnett's lesser privileged residents this - and, ideally, every - holiday season. Love in Action will host its second annual Christmas celebration Thursday at Hope and Life Fellowship, 3594 Centerville Highway, Snellville. The free event is open to the public. Expect plentiful grub, toy gifts and general holiday hoopla. "Due to the awful economy, we expect approximately 500 in attendance," said Bobbi Pack, the group's founder. Love in Action has partnered this year with local businesses and churches to pull the event off, Pack said. The group held a similar gathering last year at the Lawrenceville VFW, where patrons enjoyed food, carols and the camaraderie of knowing others were in similar situations. Prior to Thanksgiving this year, the group hosted an open-mic event where amateur poets and singers expressed gratitude for all of life's blessings. Eventually, ministry leaders hope to open an emergency residential facility in Norcross called the "House of Joy," a respite for single women and children who face crisis situations.
