Lawrenceville duplex damaged in fire

LAWRENCEVILLE - Firefighters responded to a duplex fire at about 7:14 p.m. Friday in the 400 block of Charter Court.

Gwinnett Fire Department spokesman Capt. Thomas Rutledge said a man, woman and three children were home when the fire broke out in the kitchen, but no one was injured. Firefighters were able to completely extinguish the blaze in less than 10 minutes, Rutledge said, limiting the damage to the kitchen. The adjoining unit was not damaged, he added. Those occupants were evacuated but allowed to re-enter the home after the incident.

Rutledge said the exact cause of the fire is not known, but it appears to be accidental. The family was cooking at the time, he said.

The family was displaced and is staying with relatives. Assistance from the Red Cross was not requested.
