SNELLVILLE - Authorities have arrested a 33-year-old Snellville man for reportedly breaking into two apartments last month and setting them on fire.
Police say Derek Alan McAfee raided the Orion at Killian Creek apartments in the wee hours of Nov. 30 and set fire to two unoccupied units. One unit was vacant, and the tenants of the other were elsewhere, according to a police report. The fires caused minor damage to both units and were extinguished before firefighters arrived. Fire investigators located "multiple points of origin" in each room and ruled the incident an act arson, the report says. Residents of apartments above the damaged units were home at the time, according to McAfee's arrest warrant. Arrested Sunday, McAfee is charged with two felony counts of arson and burglary. A probable cause hearing for McAfee is scheduled for Jan. 2 in Gwinnett Magistrate Court. He remains in the Gwinnett County Jail without bond after a judge declared him a danger to the community.More like this story
