The Dish: Rico's World Kitchen

Open since: April

Location: Rico's World Kitchen is tucked into a shopping center behind the Mall of Georgia.

Hours: 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays

Owner: Rico's World Kitchen is a family project for husband and wife team Enrico and Katie Cunnington and Enrico's mother, Nett Cunnington. The family got their start providing custom catering and expanded into their first restaurant venture.

Atmosphere: Rico's World Kitchen offers table seating indoors and out, and the cozy dining area is accented by flags that hang from the ceiling representing various countries and the international cuisine offered up at Rico's. The walls are dotted with photos taken at various places around the world visited by the Cunningtons and their family and friends.

Menu: Rico's World Kitchen offers a small menu of items served every day, complemented by daily soup and entree specials such as chicken marsala with penne pasta, a pinwheel pork loin stuffed with cheese and spinach, alligator chili (yes, it is made with alligator meat) and an asparagus and white truffle soup, to name a few of the occasional options.

"We have a lot of international influences in our food," said Enrico Cunnington, who, as well as his mother, Nett, is a native of the Philippines. "It's international comfort food, your favorites from around the world and here in the South as well."

Rico's World Kitchen boasts barbecue the Cunningtons' 3-year-old daughter, Isabella, calls the best. The mojo pork sandwich is a helping of tender, marinated smoked pork drizzled with the restaurant's own made-from-scratch barbecue sauce resting atop a crispy bun.

For those who consider desserts to be a highlight of any meal, Rico's offers homemade red velvet cake, banana pudding and hummingbird cake - a banana cake with pineapples and pecans, which Katie Cunnington said is a delicious, old-fashioned, vintage type of cake.

Things you might not know: The Cunningtons plan to bottle and sell their homemade sauces and dressings, from their sweet and sour sauce to the balsamic vinaigrette dressing.
