Out in the Crowd: Local theaters present holiday shows

Gwinnett professional and community theaters are in holiday mode as they present Christmas favorites throughout December.

From the story of a boy who just wants that Red Ryder BB gun for Christmas to the classic tale of Ebenezer Scrooge's change of heart, Gwinnett theaters are hoping to spread holiday cheer from their stages.

ART Station's "A Broadway Christmas Carol"

A production that includes popular Broadway tunes is likely to be a hit.

ART Station's production of "A Broadway Christmas Carol" combines the classic Charles Dickens story of Ebenezer Scrooge with parodies of Broadway music, and the Stone Mountain-based arts center promises new surprises for this year's show.

Performances will be at 8 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and 3 p.m. Sundays through Dec. 21 at ART Station Theatre, 5384 Manor Drive in Stone Mountain. For more information, call 770-469-1105 or visit www.artstation.org.

Aurora Theatre's "Christmas Canteen"

Let the Aurora Theatre take you on a music roller coaster ride with its annual holiday variety show "Christmas Canteen."

From holiday favorites such as "Rudolph the Red- Nosed Reindeer," "Jingle Bells" and "Deck the Halls" to a salute to Donnie and Marie Osmond and an Andrew sisters medley, the six-member cast and four-member band bring the joy of Christmas to life on the theater's stage.

Those who love live music won't want to miss "the coolest Rudolph you've ever heard" performed by Jevares Myrick, whose smooth voice - and even smoother moves - are one of the many highlights of the show.

"Christmas Canteen" will be presented at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays through Dec. 21 at the Aurora Theatre, 128 Pike St. in Lawrenceville. For more information, call 678-226-6222 or visit www.auroratheatre.com.

New Dawn Theatre's "A Christmas Story"

New Dawn Theatre is celebrating the 25th anniversary of its annual holiday production of "A Christmas Story" this year.

Duluth resident Jonathan Krohn will take the stage at the Red Clay Theatre as Ralphie, who dreams of owning a Red Ryder BB gun despite the possibility he may shoot his eye out.

Performances will be given at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 2 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays through Dec. 21 at the Red Clay Theatre and Arts Center, 3116 Main St. in Duluth. For more information, call 770-622-1777 or visit www.newdawntheatrecompany.com.

New London Theatre's "A Christmas Carol"

Dickens' classic story comes to life as Jacob Marley and the ghosts of Christmases past, present and future help Ebenezer Scrooge change his "bah humbug" ways in New London Theatre's production of "A Christmas Carol."

Performances will be at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2:30 p.m. Sundays through Dec. 21 at New London Theatre, 2485 E. Main St. in Snellville. For more information, call 770-559-1484 or visit www.newlondontheatre.org.
