Ex-deputy gets three years in porn case

WINDER - A former Barrow County Sheriff's Office deputy will serve the next three years in prison, having pleaded guilty to child pornography charges.

Jason Gaub, 33, reached a plea agreement with prosecutors Nov. 25, admitting to 20 counts of sexual exploitation of children in exchange for a lighter sentence.

A judge has sentenced Gaub to three years in prison, plus 12 years supervised probation upon his release. He must also register as a sex offender, according to court documents.

Gaub admitted he viewed explicit images of children on a computer at his Winder home. He was initially arrested in October 2007, after officials with the Georgia Internet Crimes Against Children task force contacted Gaub's colleagues at the Barrow County Sheriff's Office with information of his illegal activity.

Gaub was later released on bond with special conditions. A Barrow County grand jury indicted him in April on 20 counts.

Gaub had been employed with the agency about four years. At the time of his arrest, he was married but had no children.
