Wrestling Roundup: Parkview claims third tournament championship this season

GREENVILLE, S.C. - Parkview won the Southern Slam tournament on Saturday at Eastside (S.C.) High School.

Robbie Kane and Matt Johnson were the Panthers' tournament champions. Clint Jones took second place, Quade Sewell, Alex Hillis and Matt Elakatt placed third. Matt Andersen and Frank Gaddy took fourth.

It's the third tournament championship for Parkview this season, which also won the Blackbeard Duals and Panther Duals.

Broncos claim Blue Devil Classic championship

NORCROSS - Brookwood had three tournament champions as the Broncos won the Blue Devil Classic on Saturday at Norcross High School.

Brookwood finished with 226.5 points, beating out West Forsyth (222) and Fayette County (198).

Sean Thomas (103 pounds), Stephen Daniels (125) and Joe Epps (130) were tournament champions. Jonathan Davis (112), Will Goodwin (140), Zohar Luna (145) and Chris Roman (171) took second place. Jacob Daniel (135), and Greg Cordle (152) and Kyle Smith (160) finished in third place.

Genthert named Most Outstanding Wrestler

GREENVILLE, S.C. - Wesleyan's Colin Genthert defeated a two-time South Carolina state champion on Saturday at the Southern Slam.

Genthert won the 160-pound weight class with a 16-8 victory over Zane Newton and was named Most Outstanding Wrestler as the Wolves took fifth place as a team.

Tyler Hediger (140 pounds), Michael Douglas (171) and Andrew Uria (215) were runner up and Josh Toman (145) took fourth place. Brooks Spraetz (119) was seventh and Zack Rindik (125) and Alex Sierota (130) finished in eighth place.

Five Lions go undefeated at Walton Duals

MARIETTA - Peachtree Ridge had five wrestlers go undefeated at the Walton Duals on Saturday.

Drew Harrison (130 pounds), Josh Bloodworth (135), Tyler Gregg (140), Aslan Gigolaev (152) and Matt Chapman (171) were 5-0, while Michael Chapman (145) and Alan Gigolaev (160) were 4-1.

The Lions were 2-3 at the tournament, beating Forsyth Central 56-21 and Mill Creek 45-27. Peachtree Ridge lost to North Gwinnett 39-36, Pope 55-27 and Cass 40-30.

Caputo, Harrison remain undefeated

MARIETTA - Mill Creek's Tommy Caputo and Josh Harrison went undefeated at the Walton Duals on Saturday.

Caputo improved his record to 11-0, while Harrison is now 6-0.

The Hawks won one of their five matches, beating McEachern 39-26. Mill Creek lost to Walton 66-24, Valdosta 44-27, Collis Hill 65-10 and Peachtree Ridge 39-26 and is now 6-5 for the season.
