City council confirms Kaul's 1-vote win

NORCROSS - At a special called meeting Monday evening, the Norcross City Council voted to approve the results of a recount that confirmed Ross Kaul's 1-vote win.

City Clerk Susan Wuerzner said a recount Monday afternoon of ballots cast in the Dec. 2 runoff election showed Kaul received 399 votes and Michelle Crofton received 398. Eight ballots were spoiled, she said.

Crofton requested the recount Friday. The original vote totals came to a tie Dec. 2 in the Crofton-Kaul race, but the city attorney was called to City Hall to determine one unreadable ballot.

Crofton is out of town and could not be reached by phone Monday evening for comment.

Kaul was also not immediately available for comment, as he was in a meeting Monday evening.

Kaul will fill the City Council seat vacated by outgoing Mayor Pro Tem Jeff Allen.
