Grayson to hold tree lighting

GRAYSON - The city of Grayson will ring in the holiday season with its annual tree lighting tonight as children lend their voices to the occasion.

Trip Elementary and Pharr Elementary school choruses will perform at the event, which begins at 7 p.m. at Grayson Community Park behind City Hall at 475 Grayson Parkway. Santa will arrive in the city's chariot and will be available for photos at the Grayson Arts and History Center.

Suwanee woman receives award from Falcons

LAWRENCEVILLE - The Atlanta Falcons presented Suwanee resident Sylvia Campbell a 2008 Community Quarterback Award for her work with Crossroads Community Ministries of Atlanta.

Campbell has served as a volunteer for 12 years and has been the volunteer coordinator for the past three. Crossroads Community Ministries assists homeless men, women and children.

Campbell and the other four recipients of the 2008 Community Quarterback Award were honored in November during an on-field presentation during a Falcons' game, and a $2,000 grant was awarded to each of the nonprofits the award-winners serve.

Atlanta company donates $10K to Gwinnett Tech

LAWRENCEVILLE - Atlanta Gas Light, a subsidiary of AGL Resources Inc., has made a $10,000 donation to Gwinnett Technical College.

Funds from the AGL donation will be used to defray tuition costs at the D. Scott Hudgens Jr. Early Education Center, enabling some parents enrolled at Gwinnett Tech to secure child care for their children while they attend college classes. The gift was made through The AGL Resources' Private Foundation on behalf of Atlanta Gas Light to fund scholarships supporting work force education and recruitment.

The Hudgens Center provides child care and preschool to the community, offering infant and toddler care, preschool, Montessori, Georgia pre-K classes and before- and after-school care, serving children six weeks to 8 years old. The Hudgens Center is also a model teaching center for Gwinnett Tech's Early Childhood Education program.
