LAWRENCEVILLE - A 53-year-old Winder man has died from injuries he sustained in a head-on collision the day after Thanksgiving, joining his wife who died at the accident scene.
Police said James Hammett died at Gwinnett Medical Center on Monday afternoon. He was driving his wife, Donna Hammett, 55, in a 1993 Buick Century on Friday when the vehicle collided with a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by a 16 year old. The juvenile, who police have not identified, was at fault, and charges are pending, authorities said. It remains unclear why the driver of the Cherokee crossed the center line, heading southbound on Oakland Road near Oakland Ridge Drive, causing the collision about 10 a.m., police said. The juvenile was treated for minor injuries and released, police said.More like this story
