Winslow wins Nike Regionals

Collins Hill cross country runner Amanda Winslow won the Nike Cross Nationals Southeast Regional on Saturday in Cary, N.C.

The two-time defending state champion and Daily Post Runner of the Year finished with a time of 17 minutes, 34 seconds in the girls championship race.

Winslow ran for Suwanee XC, which featured runners from the Eagles' state champion cross country team, and the group finished second with 72 points. Wilmington XC won the meet with 45 points. Suwanee XC will compete in the national meet Saturday in Portland, Ore.

Collins Hill's Nicky Akande (18:06) was eighth, Vicky Winslow (18:16) was 12th, Briana Crawford (18:48) was 26th, Allyson McGinty (18:51) was 29th, Sydney Williams (18:59) was 35th and Chloe Whitworth (19:31) was 50th.

Also held on Saturday was the Foot Locker South Regional in Charlotte, N.C.

Parkview senior Brian Detweiler was 38th in the boys seeded race. The Daily Post's Runner of the Year finished with a time of 15:46, which was the second-best time among Georgia runners. Detweiler beat out Class AAAAA state champion Taylor Lord from Chapel Hill by two seconds.

Peachtree Ridge's Niall Longobardi was 84th with a time of 16:06 and teammate Robert Fensterer was 87th with a time of 16:07. Brookwood's Tyler Anyan had a time of 16:13 to take 100th place.

North Gwinnett's Nicole DiMercurio finished with a time of 19:01 to take 77th place in the girls seeded race. Peachtree Ridge's Heather Morris was 79th with a time of 19:03 and teammate Sara Curry was 100th with a time of 19:23.
