Mrs. Richard Stewart Walsh, Jr. of Atlanta died Sunday, August 24, 2008. Mrs. Walsh, the former Mary Byrd Martin, was the widow of Richard Stewart Walsh, Jr. and the daughter of the late Mary Byrd Martin and Lovick Richmond Martin, Sr. She is survived by several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. Mrs. Walsh, a native of Lawrenceville, received her early education in Lawrenceville and later graduated from Shorter College in Rome, Georgia. While at Shorter, she was active in religious, athletic and social affairs, serving as President of Student Body Government and Chairman of the Honor Board during her senior year. For several years, Mrs. Walsh was employed by the Boards of Education in Abbeville and Aiken counties in South Carolina. Later she was employed by the South Atlantic Division of the Corps of Engineers in Atlanta and occupied several personnel and administrative positions. She served as Personnel Officer of the U.S. Study Commission, Southeast River Basins from 1959 to 1962. Mrs. Walsh was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta, Friend of Oglethorpe Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, and member of the Shorter College Alumni Association. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, August 27, at 2:00 P.M. at Shadowlawn Cemetery, Lawrenceville, Georgia. The family will receive friends at 1:00 PM at the funeral home.
