Fire destroys vacant house
LILBURN - Fire destroyed a vacant house in the 5100 block of Cold Springs Drive on Wednesday, authorities said.
Firefighters found a vacant single-story wood frame house fully involved on arrival and had to fight the fire from the outside due to heavy fire conditions, Gwinnett Fire Department spokesman Capt. Thomas Rutledge said.
Firefighters flowed water from multiple hoselines and an aerial ladder pipe to protect exposures and to control the main-body of fire. Flames consumed much of the roof over the back of the house before being brought under control. The structure is considered a total loss.
Radiant heat melted the siding on the houses on both sides of the main-fire building.
The exact cause of the fire is currently undetermined and under investigation.
No injuries were reported.
Firefighters contain a one-acre fire
DACULA - Firefighters contained a one-acre woods fire off U.S. Highway 29 in Dacula on Wednesday.
Fire crews were dispatched to a woods fire off U.S. 29 area between Broad Street and Franklin Drive at about 4 p.m., Gwinnett Fire Department spokesman Capt. Thomas Rutledge said.
Due to firefighters having to work near railroad tracks in the area, CSX halted rail traffic for about an hour and a half, Rutledge said.
