LAWRENCEVILLE - Police late Tuesday said they were close to identifying the
body of a woman found dead last week near railroad tracks in Lawrenceville. Gwinnett police spokesman Cpl. David Schiralli said investigators were at the home of a person late Tuesday who may be related to the girl. "We are going to do a DNA test to see if this is the same girl," Schiralli said. Ted Bailey, chief forensic investigator for the county, said an autopsy revealed the woman was killed as a result of impact with the train. Police, however, continue to investigate her death as a homicide. "The incident is still being investigated as a homicide until any evidence surfaces that may prove otherwise," Schiralli said, adding that the exact circumstances surrounding her death are still unknown. Authorities found the woman's remains Aug. 11 near the intersection of Gloster Road, Oak Road and a double set of raised tracks after a CSX Railroad employee reported something resembling a body. The previous night, CSX officials called 911 to report a train operator "struck something on the tracks" in that location, police said. Officers searched the area but found nothing.
