LAWRENCEVILLE - A Duluth man is behind bars on a slew of violent charges - including rape - alleged to have occurred nine years ago, records show.
Raymond David Contreras, 42, is charged with false imprisonment, rape, kidnapping and aggravated assault in connection with an August 1999 incident involving a woman, according to an arrest warrant. He remains in the Gwinnett County Jail without bond. Authorities said Contreras kidnapped the victim and raped her in the early hours of Aug. 15, 1999, at an address on Oakwood Circle near Jimmy Carter Boulevard in Norcross. In addition to the false imprisonment charge, Contreras is alleged to have assaulted the woman by choking her with his forearm. Additional circumstances surrounding the incident were not known Tuesday. Gwinnett police spokesman Cpl. David Schiralli said records from 1999 are not accessible by computer and are stored at an off-site facility. The Gwinnett Sheriff's Department arrested Contreras on Monday at the Fulton County Jail, Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Stacey Bourbonnais said. A representative from the Fulton County Jail did not return a call seeking comment.More like this story
