Cassie Peters McConnell, age 87, of Snellville, Ga. formerly of Grayson entered into Glory August 19, 2008. She was Preceded by her husband Charlie D. McConnell, son Lt. Phillip Newton McConnell of the Gwinnett Sheriff's Dept., brother Hoyt & Preston Peters, sisters Ollie Peters & Lounelle Ashe. She is survived by grandchildren, Tisha & Greg Spain of Bethlehem, Tina McConnell of Loganville. Daughter-in-law Nora McConnell & spouse Rick Starrett of Grayson. Great grandchildren Lance, Caleb & Hope Spain of Bethlehem. Brothers & spouses, Elmer Peters, Charles & Sara Ellen Peters all of Monroe, Ga., Holland & Juanita Peters, of Snellville, numerous nieces and nephews. Cassie was raised in Walton County and graduated from Jersey High School in 1938. She was retired from General GMC Trucks where she worked as the bookkeeper. Cassie lived in the heart of Grayson for nearly 60 years and her pecan orchard was the site of the early “Grayson Days” celebrations. She was very active in Chestnut Grove Baptist Church where she was fondly known as Aunt Cassie due to her niece Elizabeth Stephens and then later as Grandma Cassie by many of the younger generations. She was a member of the Lydia Sunday School Class who will serve as honorary escorts. Cassie lived the last 6 years as a resident of Eastside Gardens in Snellville and enjoyed the wonderful care and fellowship she received from the staff there. Funeral Service will be held Friday, August 22, 2008 at 11:00 AM at Chestnut Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Tommy Jordan and Rev. Denny Davis officiating. Interment Chestnut Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The remains will lie in state at 10:00 AM at the church. The family will receive friends Thursday from 2:00 to 9:00PM at the funeral home.
