LAWRENCEVILLE - A 68-year-old Snellville woman was arrested this week on charges her faulty driving caused a motorcyclist's death three months ago.
The May 7 crash at the intersection of Centerville-Rosebud Road and Lenna Drive killed Michael Donnell Barnett, 29, of Snellville, at the scene. At the time, police warned that Snellville resident Bessie Johnson could face misdemeanor charges. Police said Johnson was turning left in her 2002 Chevrolet Impala from Centerville Rosebud Road onto Lenna Drive at the time of impact. She allegedly drove into the path of Barnett, who was westbound on a 2008 Suzuki 1300 on Centerville Rosebud Road. Barnett, who wore a helmet, was ejected from his motorcycle. Johnson complained of chest pains at the scene and was transported to Gwinnett Medical Center. Two other passengers in her vehicle - both young girls - were not injured, police said. Police ruled out drug or alcohol use in the crash. Johnson is charged with vehicular homicide, improper left turn and failure to yield, all misdemeanors. She posted $3,250 bond Friday and was released from the Gwinnett County Jail.More like this story
