Former Buford superintendent joins GSBA team

LAWRENCEVILLE - Jim Puckett, the former superintendent of Buford City Schools, recently joined the Georgia School Board Association's professional development team.

Puckett began his new position this month as a professional development specialist after serving for 12 years as the executive director of the Georgia Association of Educational Leaders.

In his new role, Puckett will plan GSBA's conferences and regional workshops. He will also provide training and retreat services to local school boards and serve as the liaison with the Georgia Board of Education.

A 1967 graduate of Emory University, Puckett began his career as a teacher at Buford High School. He also worked in the district as an assistant principal and principal before becoming the superintendent.

Puckett received his doctorate in education in 1984 from the University of Georgia.

Golf tournament to benefit Boys & Girls Clubs

BRASELTON - The fifth annual Paul Hewitt Golf Classic Tournament will support six Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta in Gwinnett and DeKalb counties.

The tournament will take place Tuesday at The Chateau Elan Golf Club at 6060 Golf Club Drive in Braselton. The tee time on the Legends course is 10 a.m., and the tee times for the Woodlands and Chateau courses are at 10:30 a.m.

A dinner and awards ceremony will be held after the tournament. In addition, silent and live auctions will take place.

GNLI plans to hold reunion for group's alumni

LAWRENCEVILLE - The Gwinnett Neighborhood Leadership Institute's Alumni Association is hosting a reunion next week for all classes.

The reunion will begin at 6 p.m. Aug. 21 at Cafe Bleu Restaurant at 1032 Old Peachtree Road N.W. in Lawrenceville. The event will include a program, music, food and fun. A comedy show is scheduled for 9 p.m.

Lawrenceville Lions Club finds new location for meetings

LAWRENCEVILLE - The Lawrenceville Lions Club is now meeting at the Garden Plaza at Lawrenceville at 230 Collins Industrial Way.

Garden Plaza is a retirement community located off of Ga. Highway 316 and Collins Hill Road. The Lawrenceville Lions meet at 7 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month.
