Mr. William “Bill” Whitford, age 86, of Buford, GA passed away on Sunday, August 10, 2008. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Bernice Burhenn Whitford; son, Bradley Keith Whitford; parents, James Elmer Whitford, Sr. and Lillian Robarts Whitford; sisters, Jean Merryday, Janet Beauchamp, and Shirley Whitford; and brother, James E. Whitford, Jr. He is survived by his Daughters and Son-In-Law: Dianna and Henry Toms, Dixon, IL and Julie Whitford, Dacula, GA, Sons and Daughters-In-Law: Dennis and JoEllen Whitford, Columbus, GA, Jim and Connie Whitford, Loganville, GA, and Jerry Whitford, Buford, GA, Grandchildren: Bill and Terri Haenitsch, April and Mark Swim, Anne and Ted Harms, Ashley and Ryan Foster, Jonathan Whitford, Mishelle and David Hair, Brad Burch, Kayce and Michael Turner, Brian Burch, Mike and Jill Whitford, Liz and Andrew Poth, and Caroline Whitford, Great Grandchildren: Maggie Foster, Ethan Swim, Zachary Foster, and Katherine Rose Turner, Sisters: Ruth Meadows, Ormond Beach, FL, Lillian Kay, Mt. Shasta, CA, Joyce Hall, Quincy, CA, and Barbara Esser, Ormond Beach, FL, Brothers and Sisters-In-Law: Charles and Sue Whitford, Cape Coral, FL, Robert and Addie Whitford, Deland, FL. Many nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Whitford was born October 2, 1921 in Daytona Beach, FL. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II with the 82nd Airborne Division, Field Artillery. He was a U. S. Paratrooper and Sergeant. He was involved in military battles in North Africa, Sicily, Normandy, Holland, and He was a member of the Honor Guard in Berlin at the end of the war. He was a member of the Buford American Legion Post 127. He was retired owner of Airborne Roofing and Siding and Whitford Feed and Milling Service in Franklin Grove, Illinois and Whitford Construction Company in Florida and Atlanta, Georgia. He was a member of the Epiphany Lutheran Church in Suwanee, GA. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 13, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at Epiphany Lutheran Church, 1350 Peachtree Industrial Boulevard, Suwanee, GA 30024 (Suwanee Station) Phone: 770-831-1966 with The Rev. Dr. Robert Sims officiating. Interment will follow in North Atlanta Memorial Park, Doraville, DeKalb County, GA. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations be made to the Epiphany Lutheran Church, 1350 Peachtree Industrial Boulevard, Suwanee, GA 30024 in memory of William “Bill” Whitford.
