WINDER - A body found in the debris of a Winder house fire Sunday evening was that of a person who died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, authorities said Wednesday.
Winder police Capt. Lamar Reynolds said local authorities were notified of the cause of death by the Georgia State Crime Lab Tuesday evening. "The cause of death appears to be a single gunshot wound," he said. "With this information and physical evidence found at the scene it appears to be a self-inflicted wound. However, final determinations will be made upon the completion of the reports from the crime lab." Authorities have yet to positively identify the body. Winder Fire Department Chief Ray Mattison said the fire occurred Sunday evening at a large two-story residence located at 498 North Fifth Ave. in Winder. The blaze completely destroyed the home, he said. The investigation continues.More like this story
