Lilburn Idol names winners

LILBURN - America may just have one idol, but Lilburn has five, after a group of females took home the top prizes at the city's annual Lilburn Idol event a week ago.

The winners were decided July 25 from about 40 contestants after several nights of competition this summer.

The winner in the adult category is Charlene McAdams, with JoAnna McPhail taking the young adult category. The top teen was Amanda Creech, with Alexia Ampofo named the idol for youth and Jennifer Lazau for older youth.

City spokeswoman Bethany Nash said between 250 to 300 people attended the finals of the singing competition at City Park, and spirits weren't dampened by the rain.

"It's always a fun event. The crowd gets into it," she said. "They have a lot of enthusiasm."

The contest, in its fourth year, raised about $1,600 for the park fund, which officials hope to use to add an interactive fountain.

"It was a great success, and we're already planning to do it next year," Nash said.
