DULUTH - Police found four shooting suspects near Gwinnett Place Mall on Saturday night. In the two incidents, one person was left dead and two adults and a toddler were sent to the hospital.
Shortly before 8 p.m., two men were shot in the parking lot of Bahama Breeze restaurant at the corner of Pleasant Hill Road and Breckinridge Boulevard, police said.
One victim died in the parking lot while another tried to run to the restaurant's entrance, falling before he reached the door, Gwinnett Police spokeswoman Cpl. Illana Spellman said. That man was transported to Gwinnett Medical Center for treatment.
As crime scene investigators took photographs and looked for evidence there, about 10 p.m., more than a half dozen officers turned on their sirens and drove away to check out another shooting call just blocks away.
At Pleasant Hill Road and Club Drive, officers found two shooting victims, including a 2- or 3-year-old child, Spellman said. The shooting, which is not related to the Bahama Breeze incident, occurred at 2974 Spruce Court, and the adult then drove to the Walgreen's on Pleasant Hill Road.
At press time Saturday, Spellman said the circumstances and motive for the Spruce Court shooting were unknown, and few details were available at the Bahama Breeze scene.
Spellman said it was unclear why the men were at the restaurant, and police were speaking to witnesses about several people in the parking lot at the time of the shooting.
"The investigation is in its infancy now," she said. "We're trying to put things together to find out what happened."
Norcross man Clyde Harrison said he enjoyed a meal at Bahama Breeze on Friday and came back Saturday night. But he was turned away at the door.
"It's shocking," he said of the crime scene tape. "I've been in Gwinnett for 15 years, and it's progressively gotten worse. ... This used to be the quiet area."
