NORCROSS - Police arrested a 17-year-old Friday who allegedly gunned down a Norcross man walking home to his apartment last week.
Investigators have charged Pascual Lopez, of Norcross, with the murder of Aurelio Vasquez, 30. Vasquez was shot dead walking home from a nearby store July 22 in unincorporated Norcross, police said. Police believe the teen knew Vasquez, but "the dynamics of their relationship are still being investigated," said Gwinnett police spokeswoman Cpl. Illana Spellman. Spellman said a motive for the slaying remains unclear. Investigators said Vasquez was killed while walking to his residence at the Wyncliff Pines Apartments, located on Graves Road, near South Norcross-Tucker Road and northeast DeKalb County. Witnesses told police Vasquez was confronted by two suspects before shots rang out. He was dead when police arrived. Those witness accounts helped police pinpoint Lopez as a suspect, Spellman said. Investigators are still working leads, and more arrests are possible in the case, she said. Lopez remains in the Gwinnett County Jail without bond. Jail records show the arrest is the first in Gwinnett for Lopez, who lived in an apartment on South Norcross-Tucker Road.More like this story
