Children sought to represent mall

DULUTH - Local children are invited to try out for the opportunity to become the Simon Kidgits Face of Gwinnett Place Mall.

The three winning children, based on personality, ease of being in front of people and their smile, will represent the mall in fashion shows and serve as a spokespeople at the mall's Simon Kidgits events.

They will receive VIP check-in at all mall events, and their picture will be on display at Guest Services and Simon Kidgits events. Children from 1 to 11 years old can register on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Center Court. Finalists will be contacted between 5 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. and must return back to the mall by 6:30 p.m. for the announcement of winners at 6:45 p.m.

Age categories include: 1 to 4 years old; 5 to 8 years old; and 9 to 11 years old. The Simon Kidgits Face of Gwinnett Place chosen in each age category will receive a $50 Simon Gift Card, $50 Disney Store Gift Card, a trophy and a free photo session at Sears Portrait for a photo to be on display at the mall. The remaining five finalists in each category will each receive a $10 Disney Store gift card and a ribbon.

Registration costs $2 for Simon Kidgits Club members and $7 for nonmembers. The contest is sponsored by the Gwinnett Daily Post.

Teens to be honored for charity work

LAWRENCEVILLE - The Taco Bell Foundation for Teens and Think MTV are seeking nominations for unsung heroes in Atlanta who deserve to be recognized for their charity work.

The first-ever Teen Hero Awards is a nationwide search to celebrate teens' extraordinary activity on behalf of their community in tandem with National Volunteer Month. In addition to national winners, an Atlanta-area teen will be awarded $5,000 to be donated to the charity of their choice

Individuals can nominate a Teen Hero through Friday by submitting a nomination form and an original essay of 100-250 words explaining why the teen is a hero. Nominations can be submitted by logging onto www.teenheroawards.com.

Up to 45 Teen Hero winners across the country will each receive a $5,000 grant for an eligible charity of their choice. A panel of judges will also select four Teen Hero winners who will each receive a $10,000 grant for an eligible charity of their choice and one Teen Hero grand prize winner who will receive a $15,000 grant for an eligible charity.

In conjunction with the awards, more than 110 Taco Bell restaurants in the Atlanta area are teaming up to raise money during National Volunteer Month to fund teen volunteer programs at local Boys & Girls Clubs.
