LAWRENCEVILLE - Visit the Lawrenceville Female Seminary at 8 p.m. Friday for the latest performance in the Coffeehouse Nights live music series, which features local musical artists performing various types of music.
This month, the Border Collies will perform. The Border Collies are a contemporary Celtic band featuring a blend of traditional and contemporary Celtic and folk influences in their music and their compositions. Based in Atlanta, the band performs regionally around the southeast at concerts, festivals and clubs.
Admission is $4 for Gwinnett History Museum members and $5 for non-members. Coffee, drinks and desserts will be available for purchase. For more information, call 770-822-5178. The Lawrenceville Female Seminary is located at 455 S. Perry St. in Lawrenceville.
Seniors go golfing
LAWRENCEVILLE - Garden Plaza at Lawrenceville, a senior living community, held the first annual Garden Plaza Masters Tournament April 10.
The course was set up on the community putting green, and it was a hit with the residents. Carl Turner edged out our other participants to become the first winner of the Garden Plaza Masters. He will be presented the trophy at an awards dinner.
Several residents have already started practicing to challenge for the title in 2009.
Play tickets are available
WINDER - Tickets for "M*A*S*H" can be purchased at Pam Veader's State Farm Insurance Office at 41 S. Center St. in Winder or by credit card at Winder City Hall.
Adults are $17 per person. Seniors (age 55 and up), students and teachers are $14. Groups of 10 or more tickets purchased at the same time get the senior rate regardless of age.
The play opens at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Colleen Williams Theater in Winder. The theater is located in the Winder Cultural Arts Center at 105 E. Athens St. and has parking in the rear of the building.
A total of six shows will be presented over two weekends with the Sunday matinees starting at 3 p.m. A portion of every ticket price will be donated to Peace Place to help provide needed supplies for the women and children served by this battered women's shelter located in Winder. Additional donations for Peace Place will also be accepted.

Dance classes to be offered
WINDER - The City of Winder Cultural Arts Department is offering a fourth session of Ballroom Dance Classes at the Winder Cultural Arts Center at 105 E. Athens St.
These classes, taught by Natalie Cox, will begin April 29 and will run for six consecutive Tuesday nights. Two separate class sessions will be held each night.
This six-week session will introduce students to the basics of ballroom dance and will include ballroom basics with tango from 6 to 7 p.m. and Latin basics with instruction in West coast swing from 7:15 to 8:15 p.m.
To enroll in a class, cost per couple is $90 and $60 for an individual for the session, paid directly to the instructor (cash or check only please).
