Fantasia to be Va. Blossom Festival grand marshal
WINCHESTER, Va. - An 'American Idol' will serve as grand marshal of this year's Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival.
Festival officials announced that Fantasia Barrino, the winner of the third season of the Fox TV show, will be the celebrity marshal for the Grand Feature parade on May 3.
The 23-year-old Barrino has gone from high school dropout to a four-time Grammy nominee and Broadway actress.
Tejano singer to be moved out of intensive care
HOUSTON - Grammy-winning Tejano singer Emilio Navaira, less than a month after being severely injured in a bus crash, is now able to stand and sit up, eat and talk with his family, his doctors said Friday.
His recovery has gone so well that he was expected to be moved out of intensive care Friday and could be released from the hospital in several weeks.
Although Navaira has made much progress, doctors at Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center said his recovery once he goes home could take months or even longer.
Heidi Klum, Eve among Us Weekly party revelers
LOS ANGELES - Eve, Heidi Klum and Nicky Hilton were among the beautiful people who turned out for US Weekly magazine's Hot Hollywood party.
The annual celebration of young Hollywood style, held Thursday at Eva Longoria's new Beso restaurant in Hollywood, also drew famous faces from MTV's 'The Hills' and ABC's 'Dancing With the Stars.'
E Street Band member dies
NEW YORK - Danny Federici, the longtime keyboard player for Bruce Springsteen whose stylish work helped define the E Street Band's sound on hits from 'Hungry Heart' through 'The Rising,' died Thursday. He was 58.
Federici, who had battled melanoma for three years, died at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York. News of his death was posted late Thursday on Springsteen's official Web site.
He last performed with Springsteen and the band last month, appearing during portions of a March 20 show in Indianapolis.
