ATLANTA - Three Gwinnett County high school robotics teams are participating this weekend in the 2008 FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Competition Championship at the Georgia Dome.
Norcross, North Gwinnett and Peachtree Ridge will compete against 340 other teams in division tournaments, and the winning alliances will compete Saturday in the championship tournament. The three Gwinnett teams, along with Duluth High, participated last month in the Peachtree Regional Competition. The Gwinnett teams didn't win, but Norcross, North Gwinnett and Peachtree Ridge were invited to compete in this weekend's competition. The teams will participate in practice rounds today and in qualification rounds Friday and Saturday morning. The final rounds will take place Saturday afternoon and evening. FIRST was created to inspire an appreciation of science and technology in young people and to motivate students to pursue opportunities in science, technology and engineering.More like this story
