Sheehy signs with UNC-Greensboro wrestling

North Gwinnett wrestler Travis Sheehy signed with the UNC-Greensboro wrestling program on Sunday.

Sheehy put together an impressive senior season for the Bulldogs. He posted a 60-3 record and placed third at the state tournament. Sheehy placed first in seven on the nine tournament he competed in this season, including the Area 7-AAAAA tournament, Gwinnett County championships and the Oviedo Ironman tournament.

A two-time state runner-up, Sheehy holds North's school record for most wins and has a career record of 228-19.

Brookwood duo picks colleges

Brookwood baseball players Alex Beebe and Seth Adkins will sign with colleges today at 2:30 p.m. at the Broncos' football lodge. Beebe is headed to play for Piedmont, while Adkins is signing with Gulf Coast Community College.

Witherspoon, Aminu to play in Jordan Classic

Gwinnett County basketball stars Al-Farouq Aminu and Wesley Witherspoon will play in Saturday's Jordan Brand Classic at Madison Square Garden.

The game features 22 of the top high school seniors and will be aired on ESPN2 at 9 p.m.

Norcross' Aminu has already played in two national all-star games this year, including the McDonald's All-American game, after leading the Blue Devils to the state championship. Aminu, who has signed to play at Wake Forrest, will play for the white team.

Witherspoon averaged 18.6 points per game and 9.8 rebounds while leading Berkmar to the Sweet 16 last season and will play for the blue team.

Norcross basketball coach Eddie Martin will be an assistant on the blue team.

Goosen to play AT&T Classic

Retief Goosen, winner of the 2002 AT&T Classic, will play in this year's tournament.

The two-time U.S. Open champion will play along with Stewart Cink and Charles Howell III and 153 of the world's best players.

The tournament is May 12-18 at TPC Sugarloaf in Duluth.

'Prep Rally' highlights soccer, baseball games

n "Gwinnett Prep Rally," the county's high school sports program, airs highlights from South Gwinnett-Parkview baseball, Norcross-Collins Hill baseball and Parkview-Hendersonville soccer.

Featured athletes include Parkview's Zach Cone and Kofi Gyawu and Norcross' Forrest Garrett.

Memphis' Rose going to NBA

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Memphis freshman Derrick Rose announced he was jumping to the NBA Tuesday, the same day coach John Calipari agreed in principle to a contract extension with the school.
