Youth roundup: Brookwood boys, Collins Hill girls win county junior varsity titles

The Brookwood boys and the Collins Hill girls won the junior varsity track and field championships recently at Mill Creek.

Brookwood's boys won five events and finished with 159 points. Collins Hill was second with 148, Peachtree Ridge (59.5) was third, Mill Creek (49) was fourth and South Gwinnett (35.5) was fifth.

Carter Hewitt (800 and 1,600), Michael Sexton (3,200), Austin Smith (Shot put) and the 3,200 relay team won county titles for Brookwood.

Collins Hill's Charles Perkins (100), Andrew Martinez (200 and 400), Antonio Ashford (triple jump), Erik McGee (high jump) and the 400 relay team all brought home gold.

Mill Creek's George Bryant (300 hurdles) and Spencer Sheats (pole vault), Duluth's Aleec Harris (110 hurdles), Peachtree Ridge's Jarron Dawson (long jump), GAC's Trent Boyd (discus) and South Gwinnett's 1,600 relay team were all county champs.

Collins Hill girls won seven events to finish in first with 148 points. Central Gwinnett (82) was second, Brookwood (69) was third, Peachtree Ridge (62) was fourth and Grayson (43.5) was fifth.

The Eagles' Ashlyn Diemer (400), Briana Crawford (800), Vicky Winslow (1,600), Mackenzie Brady (3,200) and the 400, 1,600 and 3,200 relay teams were county champions.

Central Gwinnett's Charmequa Lee (200) and Kryslynn Fincher (100 hurdles and triple jump) took first place. Brookwood's Lauren Fincher (300 hurdles) and Katie King (pole vault), Shiloh's Patrice Woodard (100), Parkview's Amanda France (high jump), Grayson's Lauren Pannell (shot put), Peachtree Ridge's Nacirema Mann (long jump) and Mill Creek's Maggie Shay (discus) were also county champs.

BASEBALL

Renegades take Thunder Clash title

The 14-and-under South Gwinnett Renegades won the Thunder Clash at South Gwinnett Park.

The Lawrenceville-based team went undefeated in bracket and pool play, defeating Winder Team Elite, Hebron Angels and the South Gwinnett Thunder. It was the second tournament championship of the season for the defending Greater Gwinnett Baseball League Champions.

Members of the team are: Clint Carr, Michael Gouge, Parker Graves, Austin Loyd, Zack Nolan, Lucas Sims, Steven Slaughter, Austin Smith, Patrick Smith, Reid Steckenrider, Nicholas Tompkins and Ryan Woodard. The is coached by Reggie Tompkins, Randy Loyd, Mike Gouge and Boyd Smith.

WRESTLING

Mauricio, Forte win state titles

The North Gwinnett youth wrestling program had seven wrestlers place at the state tournament led by champions Anthony Mauricio and Keison Forte.

Brett Byerly and Alex Stoehr placed second, Bennett Bowen and Zach Rhymer took third and John Roark was fourth.

The team is coach by Kurt Rhymer.

CYCLING

Frazier Cycling shines in Alabama

The Suwanee-based Frazier Cycling Juniors road cycling team raced in the Tour de Tuscaloosa on March 29.

The team had three individual winners from Gwinnett and four others place in the top three.

Philip O'Donnell (Suwanee) won the 10- to 12-year-old boys division.

Fletcher Lydick (Lawrenceville), Brody Hartley (Lilburn), James Todd (Norcross) and Alex Wexler (Suwanee) placed in the top 10.

Brenna Burke (Lawrenceville) was second and Abigail Aldridge (Duluth) placed third in the girls 10- to 12-year-old division.

In the 13- and 14-year-old girls division, Zoe Frazier (Suwanee) took first place, Melissa Goodman (Suwanee) was second and Brittney Hartley (Lilburn) was third.

Carrie Burke (Lawrenceville) won the 15- and 16-year-old girls division.

David Goodman (Suwanee) placed second in the 15- and 16-year-old boys division.

Nick Frazier (Suwanee) David Hernandez (Lawrenceville), Russell Tindol (Lawrenceville) and Hunter Lydick (Lawrenceville) placed in the top 10.
