BERKELEY LAKE - On Saturday, the city of Berkeley Lake will sponsor Art by the Lake, a show and sale of unique artwork created by local artists.

Visitors to the art show can view and purchase paintings in acrylic, watercolor, oil and mixed media. Pottery, sculpture, photography and jewelry created by the city's award-winning artists will also be on display and for sale.

A childrens' art show will be on display in the pavilion behind the chapel and is also a feature of this annual event.

"I have lived here for over 20 years, and Berkeley Lake has always been something of an artists' colony. Perhaps because it's such a beautiful place, it attracts artists or inspires people who are already here to explore their creativity," Mayor Lois Salter said.

Ann Tuck Baden will be an exhibiting artist at Art by the Lake. She is represented by Lagerquist Gallery in Buckhead. Her works are imaginative and colorful, with an impressionistic flavor. Rigsby Barnes is a Berkeley Lake artist whose work - primarily photography and mixed media - will be on display at Saturday's show.

Jo Lackey is another artist whose art will be on display Saturday. Lackey's paintings are primarily watercolors on paper or canvas. She has a studio in Berkeley Lake but also loves to spend time at her home in Seagrove Beach, Fla.

D.B. Love is an artist who creates two- and three-dimensional art, mostly in mixed media and clay. Love's pottery is raku-fired (a kiln firing process that originated in the 16th century), and each piece is rich in its own uniqueness and craftsmanship. Love's works will also be displayed and offered for sale Saturday.

Many artists have lived and worked in the Berkeley Lake community since the lake was first settled back in the early 1950s. Artist B.J. Barrett organized the independent artists in 1997 as founding president of the Artists of Berkeley Lake.The first annual Artists of Berkeley Lake Tour of Studios was held Nov. 30, 1997.

"The (Artists of Berkeley Lake) art group grew each year, with more people living outside the city limits wanting to become members. The original organization was dissolved, and a new one was created called Kudzu, which is open to a larger body of artists," said Barrett, whose art will also be featured in Art by the Lake.
