LAWRENCEVILLE - Six people were injured - one critically - in a Wednesday afternoon wreck involving a tractor-trailer on Ga. Highway 316, authorities say.
Lawrenceville police Capt. Greg Vaughn said a tractor-trailer traveling eastbound on Ga. 316 rear-ended five vehicles then swerved, crossed the median and traveled into the westbound portion of the highway. No vehicles in the westbound lanes were hit, he said.
The multi-vehicle wreck, which occurred shortly after 4 p.m. between Collins Hill Road and Ga. Highway 120, brought the rush-hour commute to a standstill as traffic was shutdown in both directions on Ga. 316.
All lanes reopened about an hour later, Vaughn said.
Six people were treated for injuries, according to Gwinnett fire spokesman Capt. Thomas Rutledge, one of which was transported to Atlanta Medical Center with a "critical injury." Four were transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. One motorist was released at the scene by Gwinnett fire paramedics, he said.
